Lights, Lasers, UV, Sounds, and Feasts!

Step into the Ancient Forest this winter as twinkling lights, soundscapes, and light effects transform the woods after dark.

What’s on this year:

The Red Squirrel Trail: Head 8 metres up into the canopy for elevated views over the lights, then walk through a glowing UV light tunnel.

Forest Laser Display: Watch the trees light up with a laser show running throughout the evening.

Fire Pits & Food: Stop by the Forest Food Stop along the path or outside the shop for a marshmallow or s’more to roast over the fire pits.

Foresters Cafe: Open for full meals and snacks, which is ideal for grabbing a bite before you head out onto the trail.

Good to know:

The event is open to everyone, and the main path is fully pram and wheelchair-accessible, and dogs on leads are welcome. (Please note: the trail includes an interactive sound display with higher noise levels in some areas.)

The Illuminated Red Squirrel Trail & UV Light Tunnel

The Red Squirrel Trail is a highlight feature of Ancient Forest Twi-LIGHTS, giving you a completely different perspective on the ancient pinewoods.

Head 8 metres up into the canopy for sweeping, elevated views over the illuminated trees below. Further along, the path turns into a glowing UV tunnel. Wear fluorescent clothing or face paint to make the most of the light!

Forest Food Stop, Foresters Cafe & Marshmallow Pits

Take a break from the magic and refuel at our Forest Food Stop, offering a variety of delicious snacks and drinks. Try favourites like mulled cider and creamy hot chocolate, which is perfect for keeping warm on a crisp evening.

Foresters Cafe will also be serving a selection of delicious hot meals and snacks, which are perfect before you head out onto the trail.

Cosy up by the fire and enjoy a sweet treat at one of our marshmallow roasting pits!

This attraction is suitable for all ages – from toddlers to great-grandparents!
The boardwalk is wheelchair-friendly, so it can be enjoyed by visitors of all abilities. There are also benches along the way for anyone wanting to rest tired legs.
Try the menu at Foresters Cafe, Forest Food Stop and toast marshmallows and s’mores at the roasting pits.

What you should know

From 21st November 2026, Ancient Forest Twi-LIGHTS will run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 4pm to 6pm (last entry at 5.30pm).
During the Christmas holidays, the trail will open daily from 18th December 2026 to 4th January 2027, excluding 25th and 26th December and 1st January.
During the February half-term holidays, Ancient Forest Twi-LIGHTS will run daily from 12th to 21st February 2027, from 6pm to 8pm (last entry at 7.30pm).
Winter conditions: While we take measures to keep the boardwalk safe, surfaces may become icy during the winter months. Please take care when walking and avoid running.
Accessibility: The trail is accessible for prams and wheelchairs. However, some narrower sections may not be suitable for double buggies or mobility scooters.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please be aware that there is a sound installation along the trail.
Sensory information: The trail features flashing and strobe lighting, along with sound installations, which may not be suitable for visitors with sensory sensitivities.
Ticket information: Visitors with a Winter Day Ticket must purchase an additional Twi-LIGHTS bolt-on ticket to access the trail. A Winter Day Ticket alone does not include entry to Ancient Forest Twi-LIGHTS.
